Professional development can accelerate for twenty years while spiritual formation quietly becomes thinner, more performative, and more compartmentalized. You still believe everything you believed. It just does not shape as much as it used to. I trained at Covenant Theological Seminary and have spent a decade as a licensed counselor, and this is the work I care about most.
When faith becomes another compartment
A leader can remain orthodox, active, generous, and respected while privately noticing that faith has less influence on ordinary decisions than it once did.
The issue is rarely knowledge. Most of the men and women I work with could teach the class. The issue is formation: what actually shapes your reactions, your ambition, your money, your marriage, your use of time, and your use of power when nobody is watching.
The numbness many successful Christians feel is the exact disconnect and disappointment Jesus said the world would deliver. That is not a reason for shame. It is a reason to take the numbness seriously as information.
What spiritual growth looks like in practice
Formation should be visible in ordinary choices.
Relationships
Do your spouse, children, and employees experience humility, repair, patience, and truth from you, or Christian language? They know the difference.
Stewardship
Do money, influence, time, and opportunity increasingly serve a kingdom larger than your own advancement or comfort? If you cannot name a mission that supersedes your wealth, you are probably serving the system.
Made for more
The phrase has become marketing language, which is unfortunate, because something underneath it is profoundly true.
By more, I do not mean a bigger company, another zero, or a more impressive version of yourself. I mean a life capable of love, joy, sacrifice, worship, play, friendship, creativity, service, and real presence. I mean that one day you stand back in awe at how much you delight in your children and your spouse.
The same capacities that built your success, the pattern recognition, the courage to decide with incomplete information, the ability to lead, are gifts. It would be a shame to reduce them to corporate skills. What would happen if the leader who can diagnose a struggling organization became equally curious about the atmosphere at his own dinner table?
Coaching with faith at the center
This is not pastoral counseling disguised as executive coaching, and it is not executive coaching with a verse attached.
When it is your goal, the work directly integrates Scripture, prayer, spiritual practices, vocation, leadership, marriage, and stewardship. We also do the psychological work of finding where the old files were written, the ones that say rest must be earned or disagreement means rejection, because those files shape your spiritual life whether you have named them or not.
